Abstract:
One of the subjects that have not been under scrutiny in Iranian Linguistic Research is the impact of Linguistic features in the film industry. An important topic in this subject is that of understanding the purpose of using dialects and accents in Iranian films. Having said that, this article mainly poses the question of how this aspect can be described; is it solely used to demonstrate a natural interaction between the speakers of an accent or dialect, or is it somehow utilized to attract more audience and become a box office hit by inducing comedy. In order to gain a better understanding of this issue, the writers of this article chose eight movies from two groups of commercial and noncommercial among the movies produced in the recent years (since 90's), and analyzed the feedbacks from the audience by giving them a questionnaire and from the directors of these movies by conducting interviews. The audience were both speakers and non-speakers of an accent. A large part of the informants considered the purpose of using accents in the commercial movies to be inducing humor, and noncommercial movies to be the common use of accents.
