Abstract:
This article is aimed to describe and explain different aspects of possessive structures (morphological/ syntactic structure) and different ways of stating possessive relationships (semantic relationship) in Kurdish language. The Kurdish data is limited to Kermashani Kurdish, a southern-Kurdish dialect, spoken in Kermanshah city located in west part of Iran. After describing four types of phonological marking of possessed and possessor and also six ways of semantic relationships between possessed and possessor with showing clear examples among different languages in the world, five morphological/syntactical structures of establishing of possession in Kermashani Kurdish dialect including juxtaposition, using linker, bound pronoun, have-structure and “hən”-structure will be found out. Then the five ways of expressing possessive structure in this Kurdish dialect will be analysed in different semantic aspects to show how the relations between possessed and possessor are. Finally it will be shown that all of them can be used to express all types of conceptual relationships between possessed and possessor except “hən”-structure which can be used only when the possessed (D) is alienable and non-human.
