Abstract
The present study seeks the notion of Persian Language Information Structure comparatively and diachronically based on the theoretical framework of Halliday (2002) and Lambrecht (1996). The study of information structure has been considered as the focus of the discourse analysis and functionalists such as the Prince, Halliday, Givon, and Lambrecht. In language processing, the information structure has main concern such as phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic issues. The question in this study is, what’s the difference between the construction of information structure and the representation of informative elements in these two linguistic eras? for this purpose, the content has been collected from the middle and modern Persian texts with similar genres as research data. Persian language data includes Bandhoš, Menog-i Khrad, Kar-Namag i Ardashir i Pabagan, Jamasp Namag, dēnkart (religious deeds), Zādsparm, and some other remained texts from middle Persian. Also, the modern Persian data are collected from Persian Data Base(www.pldb.ihcs.ac.ir) and the translation of those mentioned texts in middle era. The results denote that in middle Persian like modern Persian, some constructions like scrambling, topicalization were common constructions and in middle Persian texts exaphoric reference are more common. Moreover, Contrastive Focus represent new information in most of the cases.
