Abstract
Given that television is one of the most influential media that useswritten language in variousTV programs,likeadvertisements and subtitling, it can be considered as one of the best tools for expanding and teaching the orthography approved by the Persian Academy of Language and Literature. In this regard, the present study addresses the condition of Persian orthography in the national media and its compliance with the guidelines approved by the Persian Academy.In this research, descriptive method and content analysis as well as linear assessment method have been used in the framework of Multiple Attribute Decision Making. To this aim, six hundred sentences were analyzed from three IRIB TV channels namely, iFilm, Tamasha and News. Then, the compliance rate of each was verified by the “Guidelines on Persian Orthography” approved by the Academy and ranked by linear assessment method. The findings indicate that none of the three channels are fully compliant with the guidelines, and each of them complies with some and has violated in some attributes. Meanwhile, the highest amount of match was in the News channel.
