Abstract
The Assessment of Cliticization of Modal -ke in Colloquial Standard Persian based on Morphological Criteria of Zwicky and Pullum

Clitics are morphosyntactic elements on which various studies has been done. Based on the studies done on Standard Persian, some types of clitics have been identified in this language. But there is also a new and less-known one which is -ke in modal function. The only study that has considered Persian modal -ke as an enclitic is Ghomeshi's (2013). She has offered some syntactic explanations regarding cliticization of modal -ke through pragmaticalization and detachment principle. But there is also a need for morphological study to confirm or reject the cliticization of this element in this function. This study has investigated the cliticization of persian modal ke through four proposed morphological criteria of Zwicky and Pullum (1983). Results of data analysis confirm the cliticization of Persian ke as a modal particle.
